Description

What a story we have for this coffee. In May, Ethan and Kenny were able to go to the region of way way to mango and stand on the farms of some incredible humans. (two more Guatemala microlots will debut in the upcoming months)Jaime’s attention to detail and pride in his coffee was most definitely felt the time we spent Tecitan area. On the table, this is the coffee we bid the highest on during our trip because we had no interest in losing the opportunity to secure it. We believe you will love this coffee. It is subtly sweet and incredibly balanced. One of the most enjoyable cups of coffee we’ve had on the table in a long time.Who is Jaime?
Jaime Morales Pérez is a passionate artisan of specialty coffee cultivation from Sacchumba, Tectitán, in the coffee-rich department of Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Over the last 14 years, Jaime has nurtured his 0.88-hectare farm, El Tarro, perched at an impressive altitude of 1,963 meters above sea level—a key factor in producing coffee with remarkable complexity and clarity. The farm’s name, “El Tarro” (The Jar), pays homage to a distinctive native plant growing on the property, symbolizing Jaime’s deep-rooted connection to his land and its natural biodiversity.Jaime’s journey into coffee farming began with humble beginnings, transitioning from tomato cultivation to coffee after recognizing the exceptional potential of Sacchumba’s altitude and microclimate. Supported by his family, Jaime has invested in replanting older trees and establishing shade-grown systems that enhance the coffee’s development while protecting the ecosystem. His dedication reflects the highest standards of specialty coffee farming—combining traditional knowledge with a commitment to sustainability and quality. Jaime’s hands-on approach and constant pursuit of excellence have positioned El Tarro as a producer of fine, sought-after coffee that speaks to the terroir of Huehuetenango.

“Many farmers will use the term microlot to describe a coffee lot that is from a single farm, single harvest, or even from a single area on their farm. Some will add this term to a small batch of specially-processed coffee (such as a honey-processed coffee). In any case, for farmers, microlot typically refers to a traceable, exclusive green coffee that the farmer has produced through outstanding effort and great care. When a farmer offers a microlot, it typically represents the best of his crops, and they hope for a much higher return for his labor (typically 1.5 to 3 times the average current market value of the green coffee) by selling directly to buyers or by adding the label to his product before processing or distribution”. – Driven Coffee
